BRET NIELSEN

Chief Operating Officer

Bret serves as Chief Operating Officer of Anderson Real Estate and is responsible for the long-term strategic growth of the company, including the oversite of all property operations, retail leasing and the overall financial reporting of the company. In addition, Bret is responsible for the planning and development of all new development projects.

Prior to joining Anderson Real Estate, Bret was Senior Vice President of Leasing and Asset Management at Caruso, one of the largest privately held development companies in the country. During his 25-year tenure at Caruso, he was active in the development, leasing and asset management of all projects including The Grove, Palisades Village, The Americana at Brand, The Promenade at Westlake, The Commons at Calabasas, Encino Marketplace, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks, Village at Moorpark, 8500, 252 South Brand and Waterside at Marina del Rey. Prior to joining Caruso, Bret was a member of the prestigious Real Estate Advisory Services Group of Arthur Andersen.

Bret has been an Adjunct Professor at the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California since 2008 and has lectured at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, USC’s Gould School of Law as well as ICSC’s University of Shopping Centers at Wharton. In addition, Bret is a board member of Operation Progress, a member of 4ward Progress Youth Foundation, and board member of the Westwood Village Improvement Association. Bret earned his bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Development and Master’s in Real Estate Development, both from the University of Southern California. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Bret lives in Westlake Village with his wife and two daughters. In his free time, Bret enjoys spending time with his family and all outdoor activities.
